What Actually Matters More Than the Brand

Here's what we'd tell a friend, not just a customer: the brand name on the box is one factor among several, and it's often not the most important one.

  • Wear layer thickness. This is what protects the floor's printed design from scratches and wear. Thicker wear layers generally hold up better in high-traffic homes, regardless of brand.
  • Water resistance, honestly explained. Good LVP is highly water-resistant — but no LVP is genuinely 100% waterproof in every scenario. Standing water for extended periods, or water that gets underneath the plank through a damaged seam, can still cause problems over time. "Highly water-resistant" is the accurate description, and it's still a major upgrade over hardwood or laminate in Florida's humidity.
  • Acclimation and installation. Every LVP product, no matter the brand, needs to acclimate to your home's temperature and humidity before installation, and needs proper expansion gaps around the room's perimeter. Skipping either step is the single most common cause of LVP problems we see — not the product itself.
